El proceso de certificación del COMCCE.

If your goal as a cosmetic surgeon is to become certified, you're in the right place. The Mexican Council for the Certification of Cosmetic Surgery offers a process that can help you achieve this goal.

Here we will show you the steps you need to follow to achieve it:

Gather your documents:

• Official identification (INE or passport)
• Tax ID
• Proof of address
• Medical surgeon's license
• Surgical specialty certificate (Optional for Double Certification).
• Master's degree in cosmetic surgery
• Operating Notice (Cofepris)
• Advertising permit (Cofepris)
• Application for membership in COMCCE

Esta información se reúne de manera (digital) y será enviada al correo: admision@cirujanosesteticos.org
For the bioethics committee to review your application.

Once approved by said committee, your application and paperwork will be sent to the evaluation committee where you will take 2 exams; one theoretical (or knowledge-based)
and a practical one (of skills).

About the theoretical or knowledge exam.

It is a 400-question exam. All questions focus on knowledge of cosmetic surgery.

The exam is administered twice a year. It lasts up to 6 hours (with one break). Upon completion, the score is available immediately. However, results are communicated within 5 days via email or WhatsApp message.

About the practical or skills exam.

It can be carried out in 2 ways:

A) skills test conducted on video

Demonstration of skills through video documentation of performing a surgery (only one of the following options is allowed)

1. Abdominoplasty
2. Mastopexy
3. Rhytidectomy

Short video clips, each 3 to 5 minutes long, will be recorded on a cell phone. In each video, the doctor will describe the following steps of the surgery in the first person:

Video 1 / Patient selection / surgical marking and design:
(3 to 5 minutes)

In this section you must record how you mark the patient, their measurements, the pre-surgery design, as well as describe why you choose that technique for that patient.

Video 2 / infiltration or tumescence:
(3 to 5 minutes)

In this video, the doctor must describe the type of dilution used for tumescence, the amount of fluid, the areas where infiltration is done, as well as the ethical considerations, I added a nine for the postoperative period, safety margins, and latency.

Video 3/ initial incisions or cuts:
(3 to 5 minutes)

In this video, the doctor must perform the initial incisions, describe the technique used, the depth of the incision, and the methodology for hemostasis.

Video 4 / Dissection or detachment:
(3 to 5 minutes)

In this video, the physician must describe their technique for dissecting skin, structures, fascia, or layers; that is, the initial resection mechanism. This includes whether it is done digitally, with scissors, using electrocautery, or with a scalpel. They must also describe their procedures if hemostasis is required.

Video 5 / Handling sensitive structures:
(3 to 5 minutes)

In this mini-clip, the surgeon should describe their management of sensitive structures (areola-nipple complex, umbilical scar, facial nerve). What is their approach to preserving these structures, and what are the mechanisms for care, protection, and preservation of blood supply?

Video 6/ Anchors and support sutures.
(3 to 5 minutes)

In this video, the doctor will describe how to perform the rectus plication, the SMAS elevation, or the nipple-areola complex anchoring.

Video 7/ Skin cuts:
(3 to 5 minutes)

The physician must document the skin incisions made during the process, including how much skin is cut, how it is designed, and how the final work is joined.

Video 8 / final sutures.
(3 to 5 minutes)

The doctor must describe the types of sutures or thread used, the method of suturing by closures, and send an image of the final closure once the entire procedure is completed.

If drains are used, in this section you can describe the type of drain you choose to use.

Regarding the shipment of these mini clips:

They should be sent to the council's email or WhatsApp to be evaluated by the evaluation committee.

About the in-person assessment

A different surgery may be used for the evaluation, for example liposuction or implant placement; however, the evaluation in this case will be in person.

In these cases, the surgery cannot be performed on video, but rather before a panel of examiners or evaluators.

This in-person assessment can take place at:
• Tijuana
• Guadalajara
• CDMX
• Chiapas

The evaluator will not intervene in the procedure; they will only be an observer. Once the surgery is complete, the evaluator will provide feedback on the process. A final verdict on the evaluation's outcome will be issued within five days.

Other minor procedures such as blepharoplasty, chin liposuction, or bichectomy are not considered skills assessment procedures according to this council.

Final stage.

Once the relevant assessments have been completed
The doctor will be notified of the result via email within a period of no more than 5 business days.

The certificate will be issued and listed in the official COMCCE directory. This may take 1 to 3 months, depending on the number of applications and the evaluation process.

The certification will be valid for 5 years.

The cost is 15,000 MXN pesos.
